Ogma

The Celtic god of eloquence, learning, and the written word

In Celtic mythology, Ogma stands as a figure of profound wisdom and eloquence. Known as the inventor of the Ogham script—the ancient Irish alphabet—he embodied the power of language, learning, and the written word.

Ogma was no mere scholar confined to dusty halls. He was a warrior-poet, a champion who could defeat enemies with both sword and word. This duality of strength and wisdom, of action and contemplation, made him a unique figure in the Celtic pantheon.

The Ogham script he created was carved into stone and wood, turning simple marks into meaning. Each line and notch helped transform the physical world into a library of wisdom that would endure for centuries.

The Ogham Script

The Ogham alphabet, attributed to Ogma's, consists of twenty letters represented by combinations of lines and notches carved perpendicular to a central line. These inscriptions served as boundary markers, memorials, and records of ownership throughout Ireland and parts of Britain.
